Steel price in the market on March 31, 2025

Apr 01, 2025

Threaded steel: On March 31st, the average price of 20mm Grade III seismic resistant threaded steel in 31 major cities across the country was 3342 yuan/ton, a decrease of 23 yuan/ton from the previous trading day. Approaching the Qingming Festival holiday, there is a lack of enthusiasm for stocking up before the holiday; At the same time, the recent implementation of overseas tariff policies has had a certain negative impact on the commodity market. At the same time, the expected improvement in demand in the near future is greatly affected by the funding availability rate.

Hot rolled coils: On March 31st, the average price of 4.75mm hot rolled coils in 24 major cities across the country was 3404 yuan/ton, a decrease of 15 yuan/ton from the previous trading day. Recently, the demand for hot coils has been insufficient, and even with the continued destocking of hot coils in the context of low inventory, the overall marginal supply and demand of the industry have weakened, and market sentiment continues to weaken.

Cold rolled coils: On March 31st, the average price of 1.0mm cold coils in 24 major cities across the country was 4132 yuan/ton, a decrease of 7 yuan/ton from the previous trading day. According to feedback from traders, local steel mills in the southwest region have issued the latest phase of cold rolling settlement, but the settlement price is unsatisfactory. Most traders have given feedback that there is basically no profit margin, with many cost reversals, and coupled with the fact that terminal demand has not yet recovered, overall shipments are not smooth, and their mentality remains pessimistic.

Medium thick plate: On March 31st, the average price of 20mm ordinary plate in 24 major cities across the country was 3547 yuan/ton, a decrease of 3 yuan/ton from the previous trading day. In terms of supply, steel mills in North China have slowed down their delivery pace in the early stage, resulting in fewer shipments from mainstream medium plate factories, especially for general plates, which are in short supply. The delivery volume in other markets is limited, and some specifications in East China, Southwest China, and other regions are broken. On the demand side, there is differentiation, and the procurement volume of infrastructure projects remains stable, but the release of manufacturing orders is not as expected, leading to an expansion of the demand gap between ordinary and low-alloy plates.
